Refuse & Resist is a nationwide organization that stands firmly against "the meanspirited, openly racist, misogynist, homophobic, Christian fundamentalist demands for 'family values'..." In their 1987 founding statement, Refuse and Resist states: "The transformation now taking place is not some periodic swing of the pendulum from 'left' to 'right'...There must be massive resistance." R&R is fighting against the death penalty, the police state, the war on immigrants and much more.
International Office of the Leonard Peltier Defense Committee Leonard Peltier is a Native American activist imprisoned since 1977 for the deaths of two FBI agents. These two agents precipitated a deadly shootout (a Native American was killed as well) and a subsequent FBI and U.S. Marshal dragnet of a South Dakota Pine Ridge Indian Reservation by invading the reservation while following a young Native American man accused of stealing a pair of used cowboy boots. Charges were dropped against all four men accused of the murders but Leonard Peltier. He was convicted and sentenced to two life terms despite massive FBI and judicial misconduct.
FAIR -- Fairness & Accuracy in Reporting is the national media watch group offering well-documented criticism in an effort to correct bias and imbalance. FAIR focuses public awareness on the narrow corporate ownership of the press, the media's allegiance to official agendas and their insensitivity to women, labor, minorities, and other public interest constituencies. FAIR seeks to invigorate the First Amendment by advocating for greater media pluralism and the inclusion of public interest voices in national debates.
